are more convenient, but as others have said, iris scanning is absolutely the most secure method of "what you have" (vs. Once you figure out the proper distance and angle to use for iris recognition, my experience is that it pretty much just works-quickly, conveniently, and reliably. Glasses make the recognition a little more tricky to get right, but my contacts have never been a problem so far. I have been using the iris scanning since I got my S9+ in June 2018 (almost 5 years), and have worn glasses and contacts throughout that time. It's a shame how, in this race to sell equipment, us power-users frequently get left high and dry by greedy manufacturers dropping features in favor of just selling more units however they can. I still use my S9+, and am dreading moving to the next model, for a number of reasons, mainly including lack of iris recognition, and lack of micro SD storage expansion. I know this thread is old, but I'mma chime in anyway. But coupled along with the capacitive fingerprint reader, it’s a one-two punch that makes me stick with my old phone (at least until it absolutely stops working).Ĭrazy that my (coming up on) 4 year-old phone has more useful features than a new one, but here we are! Sooner or later, I’m going to have to update, and it’ll be a damn shame when I do, as I will lose all these great features I’ve come to depend on! “Progress” isn’t always what it’s cracked-up to be! I can unlock my device, or authorize a payment with a quick iris scan: it happens in an instant (quicker than I even know it’s being used half the time), and I don’t have to remove my mask. You wave your phone over the credit card slot, and the phone “tricks” the terminal into thinking it saw the card, and it works (to the amazement of the cashier)! I use this EVERY DAY OF LIFE. The cashier will say “Oh, we don’t have Apple Pay” (everyone calls phone payments “Apple Pay”, across the board). I much prefer it over face unlock.Ģ) MST technology: This is the tech that allowed your Samsung Galaxy to be used at older payment terminals that don’t support phone payments. And forget about unlocking your phone while wearing a mask! With a capacitive fingerprint reader, I can authenticate with my phone at my side, in my pocket, or wherever. In fact, I stick with my trusty old S9+ because of several features it has which have since gone away:ġ) Capacitive fingerprint reader on the back: It’s annoying on the iPhone (which I also have) to have to look RIGHT AT the camera in order to authenticate using Face Unlock.
